WOMWorld: N95 Trial - Part 1
WOMWorld: N95 Trial - Part 1

Those nice people at WOMWorld have given me a N95 to try out, now this isn't the newer N95 8GB version, but hoping to get one and compare with this older model.
I've been a N73 user for the last year now on 3UK with XSeries (Silver), so was looking forward to see what the N95 has over the N73, apart from the obvious 5MP Camera and Wifi.
Using Nokia's Device Status this is the details of the N95 on trial:
Model: N95 (F8.01)
Type: RM-159
Software Version: 12.0.013
Installed Handy Taskman and noticed I had 100MB Internal Memory, 2GB External Memory, and only 20MB of RAM. The N73 only has 30MB of internal memory to play with, everything else is the same.
First up was the look and feel of the phone and the accesories which came supplied with it. After installing everything I had on my N73 onto the N95 and playing with the phone over the weekend, my initial likes and dislikes are:-
I like the feel of the slider phone and typing on the keypad is good, only thing I didn't like was I kept hitting the RED key instead of the C, damn annoying if your halfway through a long message. Suppose I'll get used to that.
One thing I hated at first was whenever I closed the slider the keylock would turn on, but I've quickly got used to being able to close the slider and still perform a given function on the phone (you got about 1 second to press a key).
Nice clear screen and the ability to rotate by moving the slider is great. One of my pet hates was not being able to rotate on my N73 (even though I eventually found RotateMe, it still didn't work correctly with some apps).
I listen to a lot of radio and music while working, so although there was a supplied adaptor (AD-43) you don't really need it as the connection is 3.5mm, so I just plugged my Sennheiser PX200's in and away I went (if call comes and you don't have adaptor in it uses the phones microphone). Its a bit of a pain the connection is on the side of the phone, if I want to put the phone in my shirt top pocket I need to then use the adaptor with the L shape connector.
Menu layout is just about the same as the N73, so no problems moving around and finding things.
USB cable connection works a treat with Windows and Linux (only used for Data Transfer, when will Nokia release a Linux version of the Nokia PC Suite?), this is one thing I didn't like with my N73, the USB cable connection is erratic to say the least and I could never get it to see the phones external memory card.
Overall I like the feel of the N95, its a bit wider than the N73, but its smaller in length, I was suprised how light it felt and it sat comfortably in both my shirt and trouser pocket.
So far so good for the N95, but the real test will be in how it handles day to day usage from Gerry (The MOTH). How many apps can I have open at once, will internet be quicker, how does it handle streaming audio and video, can I get SIP to work easily, etc..
To be continued..
